Description:
Human DNA Molecule Structure Model:
DNA is a molecule found in the cells of living organisms, including humans. It carries the genetic instructions necessary for the growth, development, functioning, and reproduction of all known living things.
- Base Pairing: Base pairing refers to the specific and complementary binding of DNA bases. Adenine (A) always pairs with thymine (T), and cytosine (C) always pairs with guanine (G) in a DNA molecule.
- Double Helix: The DNA double helix is the three-dimensional structure of DNA, resembling a twisted ladder or spiral staircase. It consists of two long strands made of sugar and phosphate molecules, connected by base pairs in the center.
- Sugar and Phosphate Backbone: The sugar and phosphate molecules in DNA form the sides or “backbone” of the DNA ladder. These molecules provide structural support to the DNA molecule.
- Genes: Genes are specific segments of DNA that contain the instructions for making proteins and performing various functions within an organism. They are like chapters in the genetic instruction manual.
- Proteins: Proteins are molecules in cells that play a crucial role in reading and interpreting the information stored in DNA. They carry out various functions in the body based on the instructions encoded in the DNA code.
Learning outcome:
Have a better understanding of the Human DNA molecule structure to explain its double helix configuration and genetic information encoding using the model built by the student in this project
